Sound the Alarm. Save a Life.
Each year, the Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters, the vast majority of which are home fires. In 2014, the Home Fire Campaign was launched and it aims to reduce home fire deaths and injuries by 25%.
- 7 people die every day from a home fire, most impacting children & the elderly
- 36 people suffer injuries as a result of home fires every day.
- In Central Indiana, Red Cross responds to over 800 single family fires each year.
- It costs $2,500 to get a family of four off the sidewalk and into housing.
American Red Cross has a goal of installing 100,000 smoke alarms – including its 1 millionth alarm – in at-risk neighborhoods in 100+ major cities nationwide during their first nationwide event.
